OSHA does not regulate mold directly. There isn’t a federal OSHA standard that sets exposure limits for mold spores or requires mold to be labeled as a regulated hazard. Employers must address moisture sources that promote mold growth, perform safe cleanup and remediation, and implement controls such as ventilation and appropriate personal protective equipment when exposures could occur. If mold growth creates a recognized hazard, the general duty clause can apply, and OSHA standards on ventilation or respiratory protection may be used as appropriate.
